What have you been up to...?
Archive - January 2004 - June 2004
Thursday 1st January 2004 - Happy New Year everyone! Spent the day with Pete. I'm now down to about 66kg, from 69.9kg last year. I'm 5' 8", BTW. Simon's the same height, but weighs about 69 now. He's got a bigger build than me though.
Friday 2nd January - Finally started updating the site again. Made a page for Martin and updated Michael's one.
Saturday 3rd January - Katja got her Working Holiday Visa! Spent some time looking through the really nice photo album she gave us at our leaving do. Went to see Lord Of The Rings - Return of the King with Simon, Josh and Justin at La Premiere. Now that's more like it. Nice wide couches, all you can drink and eat made this three and a half hour movie more comfortable. After that, back to Josh and Justin's for drinks and then dinner at The Clove (Indian). Service wasn't that great. Food was OK. Then, back to ours for a quick drink. Found out that we all like playing cards, so I can envision a few nice evenings playing Hearts or 500.
Thursday 15th January - Our stuff finally arrived from Germany. My coffee machine - how I have missed you!
Tuesday 20th January - In NZ for a couple of weeks. I spent some lovely time with Mum and Dad, and then went to stay with Mark and Donald. Hopefully Mark and Donald move back to Sydney before too long. I miss them. Auckland City itself wasn't that exciting. Wandered down Queen Street and I was bored an hour later. I couldn't live there again. Crap weather too for a week or so.
Friday 6th February - Back to Sydney. Time to start looking for a job.
Friday 20th February - We've started doing weekly dinner parties with our neighbors Josh and Justin, which saves us cooking one night a fortnight. LOL. Josh eats anything. Justin is a vegetarian, and we're doing the lo-carb thing for the foreseeable future. Tonight we did a BBQ at our place - Josh brought vege burgers. Made Poached Peaches with Mint Granita for dessert. Ok.. there was a cup and a half of sugar in the recipe, and as a result, it was yummy.
Saturday 21st February - Bought a couple of planter boxes to start a little garden. I've got sweet cabbage and Cos lettuce planted, as well as baby beets.
Thursday 26th February - The lettuce and cabbage have already sprouted. Cool.
Friday 27th February - Steamboat at Josh and Justin's.
Saturday 28th February - Bought a couple more planter boxes to expand the garden and give my fledgling lettuces more room to grow. Bought a bulb of garlic, stuck it in water, and waited two days. After that were little roots appearing (actually, overnight!) and half of the cloves had sprouted. Planted them in the garden. Also bought two little pots for chives and parsley. Also got Vietnamese mint, a rosemary cutting (might be dead.. we'll just have to wait and see), and coriander/cilantro growing. Went to the beach with Ben and Luca. There had been big storms a week ago, and the waves were huge, coming right up to the rocks.
Wednesday 29th February - Garlic plants are already about 10cm high! This is very exciting.
Thursday 4th March - Things are looking good on the job front. Lots more ads with jobs that I'd actually have fun doing. It's funny... I never lie on my CV like some other people do, and it's really hard to get interviews, but when I get an interview, I nearly always get the job. And then when I'm in the job, they're like "we're so glad we hired you". Oh well. Simon's had a couple of interviews too, a couple of which look promising. I just hate how long the process takes. Bought a bed and a couple of bookcases for the spare bedroom. That's pretty much all the furniture we need, apart from a coffee table for the lounge.
Saturday 6th March - Instead of doing the whole Mardi Gras parade and party thing, we had Thai at Josh and Justin's. Afterwards, we watched the parade from inside. Much nicer than standing in the rain.
Tuesday 9th March - It's autumn, but that didn't stop the temperature in Sydney from reaching 39.1C / 102.3 F today. Great stuff.

I think I killed my mint plant though.. what a day to leave it out to get "a bit of sun". Oh well.
Wednesday 10th March - Simon's got a job interview. His first with a company (the others have been with agents so far). My first interview (company) is on Monday.
Monday 15th March - Simon had a second interview for the job he went for last week. I went for my interview. It's a bit far out of town, which would mean a bit of a commute every day, but the people were really nice, and it looks like it would be a great place to work. I hate interviews though. I never prepare for questions like "what was your biggest mistake and how did you fix it?". Oh well.. well see what they thought.
Tuesday 16th March - Simon got the job. It's in North Sydney, and he starts Monday. We went out to Green Chillies (Thai) to celebrate.
Friday 19th March - Went to Bondi with Tracie and had lunch and then laid on the beach.
Saturday 20th March - Went out to dinner (BBono) with Andy and Clint.
Sunday 22nd March - Simon started his new job today, and he says he loves it.
Sunday 28th March - Tickets for Madonna's Re-Invention Tour went on sale today, and I got a ticket to five different shows in Chicago and Toronto. Most of the tickets are floor, and one night I'm even 10th row! :)
Wednesday 31st March - Went out for a drink and dinner in Chinatown with Rob Laery, his wife, son, and the son's girlfriend. Neat people. Got a cold.
Thursday 1st April - Went for an interview for a contract with a large legal firm.. My potential manager is wonderful... she seems to have the same attitudes to work and organization that I do. The Sudafed 12-hour relief (120mg) thingies are doing the trick. Not a sneeze or a runny nose in sight during the interview.
Friday 2nd April - Got the contract (yay!), and they're ok with me going to Madonna (I'll just finish in three and a half months instead of four).
Monday 5th April - Started work. Cold all but gone.
Friday 9th April - Good Friday. Started a weekend long chocolate, hot cross buns, and carbohydrate binge.
Sunday 11th April - Went to Cargo (King St Wharf) for pizza with Simon, Josh and Justin, but the restaurant was packed, so we went next door to Wagamamas instead. Big mistake. Truly awful service.
Monday 12th April - Went with Simon, Josh and Justin to the end of the East-West runway and watch the planes land while we had a picnic. The planes fly over really, really close there. When they zoom overhead, the turbulence hits about 10 seconds later, and it makes such a weird "whipping" sound. Great fun. Big sale on at Myer so Josh and I went and got a couple of Sheridan sheet-sets each.
Thursday 15th April - Went to Pothong Thai with Tracie, Neil, Steven and Craig.
Wednesday 21st April - Melissa's goodbye drinkies.
Saturday 24th April - Had a BBQ here with Josh and Justin.
Sunday 25th April - Anzac Day. Went to a cafe in Hyde Park for breakfast and then went to watch a bit of the parade. Went to Clint's to watch a DVD, then off to Josh and Justin's for dinner.
Monday 26th April - ANZAC Day holiday.
Wednesday 28th April - Lauren came to stay a week.
Monday 3rd May - Mum came to Sydney to stay for a week.
Wednesday 4th May - Lauren left.
Sunday 9th May - Mother's Day. Had Yum Cha for breakfast. For dinner, we went to BBono.
Monday 10th May - Mum left for Auckland.
Friday 14th May - Had a job interview (permanent) but the job is miles out, and it isn't what I want to be doing (Novell, as opposed to Microsoft-focused), so I'll turn it down.
Saturday 15th May - Went shopping with Clint, then had to go to work to turn off every PC, monitor, and printer in advance of a power shutdown to the building. Took me three hours.
Sunday 16th May - Went to see Troy at La Premiere with Simon, Josh, Justin, Andy, Clint, Pete, Michael, Tracie and Ben. :) GREAT movie. Really long. Then, six of us went to Green Chillies Thai for dinner.
Friday 21st May - Had Josh and Justin around for dinner.
Saturday 22nd May - Watched a Texas Chainsaw Massacre and some South Park with Clint.
Saturday 5th June - Went shopping with Clint - Broadway. Even if I wasn't there, Clint would have bought those shoes anyway.
Sunday 6th June - Went shopping with Tracie and Simon, at the Chinese Markets. Got a little portrait of me done. :)
Tuesday 9th June - Transit of Venus across the Sun. What a letdown. Met up with Scott - another Madonna fan. Nice guy.
Thursday 10th June - Big thunderstorm in Sydney. Fun! First substantial rain since December.
Friday 11th June - Philip (my old flatmate) from Auckland turned up in Sydney and buzzed. Nice surprise. We're doing brunch on Sunday. Scott came around. Had dinner and watched Madonna stuff.
Saturday 12th June - Bought a Nokia 6100 on eBay to replace my aging 3330. This one roams, so I'll get a prepay card in the US and Canada.
Monday 14th June - Queen's Birthday public holiday. Day off! Went to see Harry Potter 3 with Simon. Wasn't that great, but it was better than the first two. Pity we had to spend almost three hours in the movie theater when it was 25C / 77 F outside. Winter just doesn't want to start.

Wednesday 23rd June - Saw Shrek 2 with work. Great movie.. much more enjoyable than the first.
Saturday 26th June - Went to Paddy's Markets with Tracie and her sister.
Sunday 27th June - Went shopping at the new Westfield at Bondi Junction.
Tuesday 29th June - Saw the new Colin Farrell movie "Intermission" with Josh - quite funny.
